Peggie Adkins

Graveside services at the Walters Cemetery, Tuesday, September 4 at 10:30 a.m. under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters.

 

Peggie Valine (Kinney) Adkins was born to Robert Simms and Pencie Adell (Elliott) Kinney on March 14, 1931 west of Walters, OK and departed this life in Marlow, OK on August 31, 2018 at the age of 87 years, 5 months and 17 days.

 

Peggy grew up at Walters, graduating from WHS in 1949. She married William Gene “Bill” Durbin and to the union 3 children were born. Making her home in Walters she worked for Civil Service at Fort Sill in finance and accounting for many years.

 

Peggy later married Dan Clayton Adkins on June 15, 1972 at Walters where they lived until moving to Bella Vista, AR in the late 1970’s. They eventually returned to Walters in the mid 2000’s just prior to Dan’s death. She later moved to Grove, OK and then moved to Marlow Manor in Marlow, OK, where she has resided for several years.

 

Early on in her marriage to Dan the couple enjoyed traveling to Europe and Africa. She mainly enjoyed quilting, but also decorated baskets for resale at craft shows while in Arkansas. She loved and faithfully cared for kids and grandkids. Peggy was a member of First Baptist Church in Walters from an early age and taught the Sunday School class for 5-year-olds for many years.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan in 2004; her parents; her daughter, Susan Jackson; her grandson, Levi Durbin; and her brothers, Robert “Buddy” Kinney and Frank Kinney.

 

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Cindy Paul and Eddie of Moore, OK; her son, Bill Durbin of Duncan, OK; 4 grandchildren, Luke Durbin and wife Holly of Centerton, AR, Kelli Paul of Oklahoma City, Jason Paul and wife Angie of Moore, and Lauren Denham and husband Paul of Scott, LA; 7 great grandchildren, Kilee, Emily, Ryan, Pateyn, Addison, Lyla and Chaz; 2 great-great grandchildren, Tatum and Tobias; her sister-in-law, Lois Marie Kinney of Walters; and niece, Laura Kinney Johnston of Elk City; other relatives and friends.
