Funeral Services at First Baptist Church, Walters, Tuesday, July 31 at 10:00 a.m., Rev. Kevin Simpson and Dr. Jack Jacob officiating with burial in the Temple Cemetery under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters.

Sylvia Ann Collins Booher, was born on February 26, 1940 in Lawton, Oklahoma to John Curtis Collins, Jr. and Dorothy Wampler Collins. Sylvia moved to her heavenly home on July 28, 2018 in Temple, Oklahoma following a lengthy illness at the age of 78.

She was a proud Temple Tiger, graduating in 1958. She enjoyed playing in the band where she also performed as a twirler and drum major. Sylvia was an excellent athlete and won state honors as a basketball forward. Sylvia married Donald Wayne Smith of Walters on June 29, 1958. They farmed and did custom harvesting for many years. To this union, two children were born: Kimberlie Ann and Kevin Wayne.

Sylvia later married James Booher on November 9,1984. Together they enjoyed their families, especially their grandkids and great-grandkids, as well as gardening, fishing, canning, cooking, and their pets. Sylvia worked in the Walters Public School system, Walters Co-op Elevator, Goodyear, and retired from the Oklahoma State Department of Health where she traveled over the state as a Records Consultant.

Sylvia was a member of Walters First Baptist church. She loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, her family, and friends very much. She was an animal lover, spending countless hours saving the runt of a litter and even rescuing a dog from a parking lot who had been left in a hot, locked car. She bonded with animals easily and loved her dogs Buddy, Cricket, and Banjo. She enjoyed bowling, many outdoor activities, and playing Bridge with her friends called “The Slim Gems,” and later known as “The Stretchpants.”

Sylvia is survived by her husband, James (Jim) Booher, of the home; daughter Kimberlie Scherler and husband Stanley, son Kevin Smith and wife Kathy, all of Walters, and step-daughters Lisa Galka and Mary Billings, both of Lawton; her sister LaRue Burton of Lebanon, OK; 11 grandchildren, Ryan Scherler and wife Emily, Jill Scherler, Kacie Scherler and fiancé Zach Abney, Sydney Scherler, Dustin Smith and wife Ashton, Cody Smith and Michael Story, Shelbie Smith, Jessica Pierce and husband Jeff, Quinn Jones, Jacob Spencer, and David Spencer; 7 great-grandchildren, Jocelyn, Finnegan, and Piper Scherler, Reagan Smith, Kinley Baggs, Jadie and Jackson Pierce; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Tom and Becky Dowdy and Helen Wood all of Haslett, TX, Kenneth and Betty Rupe of Walters, Frank and Laura Booher of Devol; her Uncle Kenneth Wampler and wife Carrolyn of Burkburnett, TX; numerous other family members and friends.

 

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents; and 4 brothers-in-law, Gene Burton, Dan Booher, Tom Booher and Ernie Wood.
