Joe Thomas “Tommy” Williams was born to Herbert Wesley and Elma Iris (Lewis) Williams on October 15, 1935 in Walters, OK and departed this life in Walters on July 16, 2018 at the age of 82 years, 9 months and 1 day.
Tommy grew up at Walters, graduating from WHS in 1953. He then attended Southwestern at Weatherford and Cameron College in Lawton. He married Gloria June Priddy on May 6, 1956 in Walters. They made their home in Fort Worth, TX where he was employed by Conveyor Aircraft but soon returned to Walters working with his dad in the family business as a heavy equipment contractor. In 1968 the family moved to New Orleans, LA where he worked as a chemical technician for Union Carbide. They returned to Walters in 1972 and he began doing contract plumbing. They moved to Elk City in 1981, then onto Wewoka in 1985, eventually making their home at Norman in 2000 as he retired from contract plumbing. He and Gloria completed and moved into their current home at Walters in 2005.
Tommy’s passion for many years was race horse training. He also enjoyed playing dominos and tinkering with lawnmowers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Elma Williams; his son, Jay Williams in 2004; and his sister Marynell Wilson.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria, of the home; 4 children and their spouses, Gaylan Williams and Leslie of Mustang, Arden Penn and Steve of Walters, Greg Williams and Debbie of Crescent, Lisa Bowers and Buddy of Walters; 13 grandchildren, Conner and Sydney, Justin, Ryan and Chace, Bryan and Lesli, Race and Keeli, Audra, Tehya, T.J. and Dakota; 20 great grandchildren; other relatives and a host of friends.
