Paul Lavern Barbe was born to Roy and Obie Valene (Elliott) Barbe on July 5, 1935 in the Emerson Community west of Walters, OK and departed this life in Temple, OK on July 5, 2018 on his 83rd birthday.
Paul grew up in the Emerson Community and attended Pecan Grove School. He then attended school in Kansas and at the JD McCarty Center in Norman for a time before his parents brought him back to the farm. There they continued to teach him life skills that sustained him through these many years along with his faithful Lord as he had accepted Christ at the age of 13 while attending Emerson Baptist Church.
Paul and his parents moved to town in 1962 shortly before the death of his father. In the late 1960’s Paul’s brother-in-law, Edwin Kraemer, helped get him started as a door to door AMWAY salesman in Walters. He was proud of his 30 plus year career with the company. Paul was also proud of 30 plus years of perfect attendance to Sunday School at First Baptist Church in Walters before having some health issues around the year 2000. In 2001 he retired and made his home at Parkview Manor Nursing home in Walters but continued to worship faithfully at FBC. In 2009 Paul moved to Temple Manor Nursing Home and soon joined FBC Temple where he worshiped until his health declined just recently.
Paul loved his many years as an usher at FBC Walters and loved reading his Bible and Sunday School lesson and daily devotions from Open Window and In Touch Magazine. As a kid Paul enjoyed growing up on West Cache, riding horses such as King and others, spending time with Ranger, his dog, and he also loved Pencie Ruth’s dog Janko. He was an avid OU fan, he enjoyed visiting with friends and relatives, and enjoyed playing dominos, checkers, wahoo and bingo.
He was preceded by his father, Roy, in 1962; his mother, Obie, in 1996; and 6 brothers and sisters, Pearl Taylor, Georgie Kraemer, Margaret Copeland, Leroy Barbe, Pencie Ruth Brookshier and Worley Barbe.
Survivors include his brother, Jerry Barbe of Temple, OK; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, his church family, his nursing home family and many friends.
