Bobby Gene Newby was born to Robert and Zella Loretta (Shelton) Newby on April 16, 1946 in rural Walters, OK and departed this life at his home in rural Randlett, OK east of Cookietown at the age of 72 years, 1 month and 28 days.
Bobby grew up at Walters, graduating from Walters High School in 1964. He soon committed to the United States Air Force and attended school to become a jet engine tech. He served 7 years with the Air Force which included a stint overseas in Okinawa during the Vietnam War. He discharged at Tinker AFB as a staff Sergeant in 1973. After his time in the service he moved to the Meridian community and worked for Haliburton Services, then to Bill Beene Ford as a mechanic, did transporting for Joe D. Hughes Trucking, and was a mechanic and truck driver for Shelby Industries.
Bobby married Anita Faye (Clark) Ingram on August 19, 1988 at Geronimo, OK. He returned to Cotton County and drove a truck for Copeland’s in Walters before working at Fort Sill for Northrop Aircraft Maintenance and then onto Wichita Clutch Machine Shop. From 1993 to the present he and his wife have owned and operated GAB Enterprises, mainly transporting heavy equipment across the country. He was always up to an oversize haul challenge.
He was a car enthusiast, an auto racing fan and loved working on old cars. He loved kids, motorcycles and spending time with family and friends, playing guitars and singing. He was a member of New Salem Baptist Church for many years.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Zella Newby; and Carroll Wayne Suson, his brother from another mother.
Survivors include his wife of the home, Anita; 4 daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer Renea Kirkpatrick and John of Holliday, TX, Lisa Gale Cassens and Marc of Moore, OK, Judy Renea Hill and Patrick of McKinney, TX, Dana Lynne Gilliam and Scott of Walters, OK; a son, James Kevin Ingram of Moore, OK; a sister, Mary Lee Allen of Walters; a brother and sister-in-law, Paul Michael Newby and Debra of Walters; 8 grandchildren and spouses, Kayla and Chance Richardson of Midland, TX, Kara Kirkpatrick and fiancé Jonathan Bradley of Wichita Falls; Kelcie and William Petit of Archer City, TX, Justin Straily of Oklahoma City, Matthew Gilliam and fiancé McKinna Cecil of Walters, Ethan Gilliam of Walters, Jaelyn Hill and Jace Hill both of McKinney, TX; 4 great grandchildren, Madisyn, Livi, Maya and Max; many other relatives and friends.
