Funeral services at First Baptist Church, Walters, Wednesday, February 7 at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Roger Noland officiating with burial in the Walters Cemetery under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters.
Walters says goodbye to a legend, Richard Don Trahan was born to Howard and Imogene Bell (Spannagel) Trahan on March 31, 1946 at Walters, OK and departed this life in Norman, OK on February 3, 2018 at the age of 71 years, 10 months and 3 days.
Richard grew up at Walters, graduating from WHS in 1965. He then attended Cameron College on a football scholarship and also joined the Oklahoma National Guard, serving his country for 6 years. He married Jeannie June Williams on May 20, 1967 at Walters and to the union 3 children were born. As a teenager Richard went on harvest with the Vardell family and then worked various other jobs before settling into a 36-year career with Bruton Construction. He then worked as a prison guard at the Lawton Correctional Facility for GEO from 2006 to 2010.
In high school he was proud to have been named the 1964 Football King. He was a fan of the OU Sooners and the Oklahoma City Thunder. He enjoyed golfing and fishing, loved his dogs and always named them Sam. Richard was a Christian and enjoyed attending church when able. He was dedicated and loyal to his immediate family and siblings.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Jeannie on July 9, 2017; a sister, Gina Trahan; and an infant brother, Kevin Trahan.
He is survived 3 children and their spouses, Angela and Homer Hernandez of Dallas, TX, Richard and Renê Trahan of Bixby, OK, Misty and John Timms of Lawton, OK; 8 grandchildren, Cody, Joshua, Jordan, Justus, Noelle, Molly, Caleb and Bralyn; a great granddaughter on the way; 6 brothers and sisters, Dennis Trahan and Mary of Tecumseh, OK, Brownie Trahan and Shirleen of Burkburnett, TX, Cindy Garner of Temple, OK, Shawn Graham of Temple, Howard Trahan and Janet of Walters, and Risa Trahan of Walters; many other relatives and friends.
