Carl Robert Brown was born to John Thomas and Artie Mae (Durbin) Brown on March 17, 1925, at Clyde, TX and departed this life at his home east of Lawton, OK on December 20, 2017 at the age of 92 years, 9 months and 3 days.
Carl grew up in the Walters area. He married Esther Louise Knight on January 2, 1943 in Duncan, OK and soon served his country Honorably in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII. Upon his return home from the war the couple made their home in Lawton where they raised 6 children, eventually moving east of town near Pumpkin Center. Carl worked as an auto mechanic for various dealerships and at Fort Sill. He also had a shop of his own in Lawton called Brown’s Automotive. He retired after working many years for Eddie Cordes Dodge.
Esther preceded him in death on May 18, 2000 and he later married Patrice Sue (Abbey) Hinds on February 14, 2004 at Assumption Catholic Church in Duncan. They continued making their home east of Lawton. He was a longtime member of the Catholic Church. Carl enjoyed hunting and fishing, building and racing cars, and going to the lake with the family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Esther of 57 years; his daughter, Lindia (Brown) Briggs; 4 brothers, Lawrence Haley, Jerome T. Brown, Paul Brown and Clyde Brown; and a sister, Dorothy Howeth.
Survivors include his wife Pat, of the home; 5 children and spouses, Connie Taylor of Mustang, OK, Carl and Fern Brown of Conroe, TX, Harold and Janet Brown of Elk Grove, CA, Johnny and Sheila Brown of Ardmore, OK, Deloris and Jim Catlege of Oklahoma City, OK; one like a son, Bobby Knight and wife Ann of Tulsa, OK; 2 step-daughters and spouses, Dani and Phillip Earle of Midwest City, OK, Terese and Denny Clark of Lawton, and their families; a brother, Louie Brown of Oroville, CA; a sister, Helen Peck of Duncan, OK; 17 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
