Lea Leanette (Countiss) Bryant was born April 7, 1944 at Waurika, OK to Leland Joseph and Corene Ladell (Wilson) Countiss and departed this life at Waurika, OK on October 23, 2017 at the age of 73 years, 6 months and 16 days.
Leanette grew up in Waurika, OK, graduating from WHS in 1962. She then attended college at Southeastern in Durant, OK, where she met Elvis Wayne Bryant. The couple married in Waurika on March 28, 1964 and moved to Carbondale, IL where Elvis completed his master’s degree. They then moved to the Gulf Coast making their home at Houston in the Deer Park and North Shore areas where Leanette was the assistant librarian at North Shore High School. They eventually settled at Wharton where she was a Soil Lab Technician from 1982 to 2000, when she moved back to Waurika to be near her mom.
She was an avid reader and loved playing scrabble, doing word searches and crossword puzzles. There was also a time when she did painting, crochet and cross stitch. Leanette had served on the board of directors for the Wharton Babe Ruth League from 1985-2000, and served as president of the Wharton County Jr. College Booster Club from 1998-2000. She was a member of Pilot Club International of Wharton from 1984 to 1999 and held several offices with the club to include president. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Waurika.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Elvis, on July 10, 1991; her niece, Brandi Caraway; and her brother-in-law, Jim May.
Survivors include, 3 children and spouses, Lisa Orsak and Tim of Richmond, TX, Michael Bryant and Heather of Waurika, OK, and Mark Bryant of Wichita Falls, TX; 5 grandchildren, Leanna Marett and husband Jonathan of Irving, TX, Tanner Orsak of Richmond, TX, Michael Bryant Jr., Colton Bryant and Cierra Bryant all of Waurika; her sister, Jan May of McKinney, TX; her sister-in-law, Barbara Anderson and husband Eddie of Denison, TX; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews-in-law, great nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Funeral services at the First United Methodist Church, Waurika, OK, Friday, October 27, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., Rev. Curtis Plant officiating under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home, Walters, OK. Visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening at the First Christian Family Life Center, Waurika. Graveside Services at 2:00 on Monday, October 30 in Wharton, TX, at Evergreen Memorial Park.
Memorial Donations can be made to the First Christian Church Building Fund, Waurika or Pilot Club International, Wharton.
