Dean Roy Sylvester

Funeral Services at Ray of Hope Church, Duncan, Friday, May 12 at 10:00 a.m., Dr. Jack Robbins and Rev. Dow Panell officiating under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters, OK with Interment in the Duncan Cemetery. Visitation at Hart-Wyatt on Thursday Evening, May 11, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Dean Roy Sylvester was born west of Walters, OK on February 28, 1928 to Frank L. and Wanda (Mageehan) Sylvester and was the last boy born to the union. Roy went to his heavenly home on Monday, May 8, 2017.

Roy married Rayma Fuller on December 1, 1962. They celebrated their 50th anniversary at a family dinner and recently his son and daughter-in-law surprised Roy on his 89th birthday with a surprise family gathering, which meant so much to him.

Roy was a veteran, serving in the Marine Corps during the end of World War II. Following the war he entered the Reserves and was eventually called back to active duty during the Korean Conflict.

Roy retired from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation in 1990. He was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon and taught Sunday School for many years. Roy’s life was centered around our Lord and reading and studying his Bible daily. He also shared God’s word to all who would listen.

Roy is survived by his wife, Rayma of 54 years; one son, Mark Dean and wife Lorie of Duncan; 5 grandsons, Colten Sylvester of Oklahoma City, Lance Lewis and wife Leanne of Stillwater, OK, Tanner Lewis and Kolby Sylvester both of Stillwater, Clinten Sylvester and wife Molly of Grapevine, TX; a precious great grandson, Wesley Lewis of Stillwater; a beloved sister, Alene Federer of Nipoma, CA; a special niece, Dalorice Fuller of Duncan, OK; a brother-in-law, Stuart Marsh of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Clyde, Harrold and Fred Sylvester; 4 sisters, Inez Howard, Lydia Marsh, Rose Sylvester and Louise Brooks; Also a brother and sister that past away shortly after birth, Royal Lee and Alton Nettie.

Pallbearers are nephew, Jaron Sylvester and grandsons, Colten Sylvester, Clinten Sylvester, Kolby Sylvester, Lance Lewis and Tanner Lewis. Honorary Pallbearers are Joe Kaiser, Danny Adams and Fred Paramore.
