Mary Jane (Reece) Parkey was born to James Luther and Lily Irene (Bean) Reece on April 8, 1934 at Walters, OK and departed this life in Wichita Falls, TX on October 5, 2016 at the age of 82 years, 5 months and 27 days.
Mary Jane grew up in Temple, and after graduating from THS in 1952 she moved to Wichita Falls where she worked as a dental assistant. On March 2, 1954, she married Donald Eldon Parkey at Temple. He was soon drafted and they moved to Kentucky for a time before transferring to Germany. They returned to Temple where Don farmed and Mary Jane went to work at the Haggar factory. She eventually left the factory and opened Irene’s Dress Shop with her mother which they ran for 20 years. She then worked as secretary at the greenhouse for Kenneth Spencer before settling into a 24 year career as a field enumerator with the NASDA.
Mary Jane was a member of the First Baptist Church for many years where she had taught Sunday School. She enjoyed gardening, playing bridge and traveling.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Irene; her husband, Don; her son Brent Parkey; and her brothers and sister, Jim Reece, Norma Jean Spencer and Mike Reece.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Teresa Barao and husband Scott of Woodbine, MD and Sheri Parkey of Temple, OK; 2 grandchildren, Hailey Barao of Woodbine, MD and Blair Barao of Altus, OK; several nieces and nephews, LaDonna Cullen, Cathy Jarvis, DeLaine Stehle, Billy Parkey, Kurt Reece, Floyd Parkey, Carol Jean Smith and Tim Smith; many great nieces and great nephews, to include a few who knew her as Nana, Kristle Musgrove, Keaton Parkey, J T Schultz, Jacob Bailey, BJ Parkey and Leslie Snider; other relatives and a host of friends.
