Ruby (Long) Otey was born to Toni Lee and Dora Gertrude (Page) Long on February 11, 1917 at Mead, OK and departed this life at Temple, OK on August 24, 2016 at the age of 99 years, 6 months and 13 days.
Ruby grew up in the Tupelo, OK area, but also spent time at Cache, Devol, Grandfield, and in Cotton County as the family went where farm labor was needed. She married Ralph G. Simmons on March 12, 1938 and to the union a daughter, Patricia (Simmons) Zachary was born. Ralph preceded her in death and she later married Tom Otey on July 2, 1960. Through the years Ruby worked as a waitress, a telephone operator and later as an elder sitter.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Walters and the Rebekah Lodge. She enjoyed gardening, yardwork, being with family and loved cooking and sewing for them.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 4 brothers; 3 sisters; 2 husbands, Ralph Simmons and Thomas Otey; her great granddaughter, Rena Zachary; her son-in-law, Leo Zachary; and her great grandson, Jeremy Miller.
Survivors include a daughter Patricia Zachary; a granddaughter Nikki Miller and husband Ray; a grandson Jeff Zachary and wife Penny, all of Walters; grandson Jody Zachary and wife Becky of Oklahoma City, OK; 9 great grandchildren, Jacob Miller of Yukon, OK, Colton Zachary, Erin Simpson and husband Shannon all of Wichita Falls, TX, Payten Zachary, Kera Hanson and husband Derick, and Jennifer Taylor all of Walters. 7 great-great grandchildren, Gage Simpson, Halle Hanson, Kylie Simpson, Ryder Hanson, Ethan Miller, Holden Hanson and Annabelle Jaine Purselley; and one expected in October, Colt James Zachary; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
