Iva Rae Sanders

Iva Rae (Eder) Sanders was born to Raymond James and Iva Irene (Smith) Eder on October 12, 1938 at Walters, OK and departed this life in Duncan, OK on August 22, 2016 at the age of 77 years, 10 months and 10 days.

Iva Rae grew up at Walters, graduating salutatorian of the WHS Class of 1957. Walters has been her home except for a short time in Wichita Falls when the kids were young, returning to Walters in 1967. She has worked as a librarian for the school and for the public library, and also served as Assistant Election Board Secretary for 10 years. She married James Donald “Don” Sanders on January 19, 1979 at Walters and they have enjoyed 37 years together.

She has faithfully attended and served at Bible Baptist Church since 1967, playing the piano for many years and had taught Sunday School early on. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially the grandkids. She also enjoyed reading, camping at the lake, shopping and was a night owl. She loved her pets and enjoyed feeding the neighborhood cats.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Benny Gee; a great grandson, Landon Dingman; and a great-great granddaughter, Neveah DeFate.

Survivors include her husband, Don, of the home; 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Debi Gee, Tammie and David Hunt all of Duncan; 7 grandchildren, Angie Dingman, Charley Gee, Jason Spanhanks, Raegan Nickerson, Jared Smith, Tyler Smith and Tray Hunt; 15 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren and one on the way; other relatives and many friends.
