Oma Jean Harris Courtright

January 4, 1933 — July 13, 2016

Funeral Services at Union Valley Baptist Church, Cookietown, OK, Saturday, July 16 at 10:00 a.m., Pastors Arbuary Ritter and Lonnie Harris officiating with burial in the Walters Cemetery. Visitation at Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters on Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

 

 

 

Oma Jean (Martin) Harris Courtright was born to James Thomas and Bethel (Attebury) Martin on January 4, 1933 at Walters, OK and departed this life in Burkburnett, TX on July 13, 2016 at the age of 83 years, 5 months and 21 days.

 

Oma Jean grew up at and graduated from Velma High School in 1950. She moved to Cotton County to live with her sister and there met and married Cleo Ray Harris. They wed on May 15, 1953 at Cookietown and made their home there near West Cache Creek where they raised 3 kids. She was a good homemaker and also worked as a seamstress at Haggar’s in Temple for 25 years. Cleo preceded her in death on April 25, 1990. She soon went to work at Howmet in Wichita Falls as a wax operator. She later married Louie Lavern Courtright on September 14, 1991 at Cookietown and made their home east of Walters. He preceded her in death on September 12, 2006 and she eventually moved to Devol.

 

She had a green thumb and enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, sewing, cooking and fishing. She loved the Lord and was a longtime member of Union Valley Baptist Church.

 

Preceding her in death were her parents; 10 brothers and sisters; a grandson, Ricky Lee Harris; and a great granddaughter, Hannah Turner.


Survivors include 3 children and their spouses, Mona Jean Harris Biggs and Dennis of Cookietown, OK, Cleo Wayne Harris and Joanie of Devol, OK, Rita Beth Nietfeldt and Mark of Devol; 2 stepchildren and their spouses, Lonnie and Linda Courtright of Norman, OK and Estella and Doug Sellers of Comanche, OK; 3 sisters, Gladys Carroll of Velma, OK, twin Loma Armstrong of Mustang, OK, and Eloise Smith of Duncan, OK; 13 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 1 great-great and 2 more on the way; many other relatives and friends.
