Betty Houston

Graveside services at the Walters Cemetery, Monday, June 27, 2016 at 10:30 a.m., under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

 

 

Betty Lou (Thompson) Houston was born to George Tillman and Ruth Maude (Berry) Thompson on February 9, 1942 at Walters, OK and departed this life in Marlow, OK on June 23, 2016 at the age of 74 years, 4 month and 14 days.

Betty grew up at Walters, graduating from WHS in the Class of 1959. She immediately married Freddie Jim Houston on May 19, 1959 at First Baptist Church in Walters and moved to California. While there she worked as a secretary for an aircraft manufacturing company. After 9 years they returned to Walters where she eventually went to work as the activities director for Parkview Manor Nursing Home and later became the Nursing Home Administrator at Joseph’s in Lawton. In 1989 the couple moved to Stillwater and later Edmond with Betty working as administrator of nursing homes in both towns. They retired and moved to Marlow in 2001.

 

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Walters. She loved her work and her family, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed doing flower arrangements and knitting.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; and infant twin sisters, Velma and Elma.

 

Survivors include 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael and Beverly Houston, and Richard Houston all of Marlow, OK; 3 siblings and their spouses, Dorothy and A.D. Quickle of Lawton, Kennith and Lee Thompson, Linda and Carroll Blythe all of Walters; 2 grandchildren, Suzanne Dodd and husband Brian of Duncan, OK, Trent Houston and wife Brittney of Midland, TX; 4 great grandchildren, Landen and Hayden Dodd, Wyatt and Kade Houston; other relatives and a host of friends.
