Graveside Services with Military Honors at the Temple Cemetery, Friday, March 25 at 2:00 p.m. under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Temple.
Louis V. McGee was born to George Lester “Les” and Meta Kathleen (Chambers) McGee on March 26, 1924 east of Temple, OK and departed this life in Lawton, OK on March 19, 2016 at the age of 91 years, 11 months and 22 days.
Louis grew up at Temple. He worked as a truck driver for Temple Milling Company until he was inducted into the U.S. Navy in 1943, serving his country honorably during WWII as a Seaman First Class.
Louis married Laverna Mae Godsoe on May 2, 1951 at Guymon, OK and they made their home in several Oklahoma towns while he drove a truck for Pickett Brothers at Walters, Torin of Lawton, Sequoyah Mills of Anadarko, Cortez Trucking of Oklahoma City and Earl Bray Trucking. He also owned and operated a bait shop for four years at Lake Ellsworth in the late 1970’s before returning to Temple in 1982. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Cecil McGee; and 2 sisters, Erpha Knapp and Lois James; his wife, Laverna Mae McGee in 1997; and was later preceded by his friend and companion, Viola McCalip in 2011.
Survivors include his son, Louis V. McGee, Jr. of Oklahoma City, OK; 3 grandchildren, Crystal Reeves and husband Joseph of Eagle River, WI, Matthew McGee of Rhinelander, WI and Justin McGee of Minocqua, WI; 2 brothers and a sister-in-law, Jack McGee, Don and Joyce McGee all of Temple; a sister, Noma Jennings of Snyder, OK; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
