Charles Sparks, 76, Temple, OK

Funeral service at First United Methodist Church, Temple, OK, Friday, January 29 at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Christy Clark officiating under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Temple.

Charles Calvin Sparks was born to Wade and Maxine Sparks on December 15, 1939 at Enid, OK and departed this life in Waurika, OK on January 23, 2016 at the age of 76 years 1 month and 8 days.

Charles grew up at Temple, Ok, graduating from THS in 1957 and went on graduate from the University of Oklahoma. He married Freda Marie Singletary on June 9, 1961. Through the years he made his home in Midwest City, OK, Shawnee, OK working as a pharmacist at multiple pharmacies, including Shawnee Medical Center, Mission Hill Hospital, Owl Drug, and The Medical Shoppe. He owned Sparks Discount Pharmacy in Shawnee as well. He also worked for the OK Department of Transportation, and in medical equipment sales.

He was a member of the Kiwanis in Shawnee, had served as president of the OK Service Academies Parents Club, and had served as Vice Chair of the OK Republican Party. He was currently serving as chairman of the AAA Advisory Council and was a strong advocate for seniors, especial at the Temple Nutrition Site. He was also an ASCOG ombudsman volunteer and a member the Oklahoma Silver Haired Legislature. Charles had served on the Temple City Council and as town Mayor. He has been serving on the Temple Housing Authority Board of Directors as Chairman for the past 6 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wade and Maxine; his wife, Freda, on July 22, 1989 at Shawnee; and his sister, Jerry Gibson in 2008.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Charles Calvin Sparks, II, CDR USN and Leanne Sparks of Annapolis, MD; a granddaughter, Amanda Nicole Sparks of College Park, MD; a grandson, Jackson Sparks of Annapolis, MD; 2 step-granddaughters, Amanda Marie Klute and Courtney Klute both of Annapolis; other relatives and friends.
