Funeral Service at Lighthouse Church of God, Lawton, OK, Friday, January 29 at 10:00 a.m., Pastor Delbert Hughes officiating. Burial in the Walters Cemetery, Walters, OK, with Military Honors.
George William Alfaro was born to Joseph J. and Thelma Lucille (Richardson) Alfaro on December 26, 1941 at St. Louis, MO and departed this life in Lawton, OK on January 24, 2016 at the age of 74 years and 29 days.
George grew up around St. Louis, MO and at the age of 17 he joined the U.S. Army. He served his country honorably in Okinawa, Germany and 2 Tours of Vietnam. He married Betty Morris in 1965 and they raised 3 children. In 1976 George came to Fort Sill where he eventually retired from the Army in 1983 and the next year went to work for Civil Service. He married Linda Sue Russell on July 5, 1984 at Wichita Falls, TX and they made their home in Lawton. After 41 years of dedicated service to his country, George retired as the Director of Data Communication for Civil Service at Fort Sill. He enjoyed reading and going to church.
He is preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Ollie McCalebb and Velma Penn; and 3 brothers, Joe, Donnie and Dee Alfaro.
Survivors include his wife, Sue, of the home; a daughter, Melissa and son Mike both of Granite City, IL and a son, Robert of Durango, CO; his step-children, Belinda Threadgill of Ramsey, MN and Lance Russell of Ft. Meyers, FL; a sister, Lou Brawely; and a brother, Tom Alfaro; other relatives and a host of friends.
