Dorothy Penrod, 88, Walters, OK
Service has been moved to the Hart-Wyatt Chapel due to the weather, Saturday, January 9 at 2:00 p.m. under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters.
Dorothy Mae Penrod was born to George Authur and Ruby Fannie (Sanders) Gates on April 9, 1927 at Earlsboro, OK and departed this life in Walters, OK on January 7, 2016 at the age of 88 years, 8 months and 29 days.
Dorothy grew up at Duncan, OK. She married Billy Joe Penrod on September 9, 1946 at Temple, OK and made their home mainly in Walters through the years. Early on she worked in several different cafes and then began doing janitorial services for business in Oklahoma City and Duncan. Later on she was known for doing ironing for others from her home.
She enjoyed watching her soap operas and westerns, quilting, baking bread, pies and lots of hot rolls. She also had a green thumb and enjoyed growing her flowers and vegetables.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Billy Joe Penrod; 3 sons, Dannie Joe, Billy Ray and Paul Richard Penrod; and a daughter, Caren Kay Riddles.
Survivors include a daughter, Anna Spence of Walters; a son, Terry Penrod of Lawton; 2 sisters, Beth Johnson and Peggy Bryant both of Duncan; 13 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
