Don "Dagwood" Wilson

Funeral services at First Baptist Church, Walters, Thursday, December 10 at 10:30 a.m., Rev. Roger Noland officiating. Burial in the Walters Cemetery under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home.

Donald Wayne “Dagwood” Wilson was born to Arthur Leon and Maudie Mae (Davis) Wilson on December 1, 1940 in Walters, OK and departed this life in Wichita Falls, TX on December 7, 2015 at the age of 75 years and 6 days.  

Don grew up at Walters, graduating from WHS in 1959. He then joined the Oklahoma National Guard, but soon moved to California. He worked there for a year then returned home to Walters and the National Guard, completing six years of service to his country. On February 3, 1973 he married Lydia Sue (McClendon) Farris at Walters. They made their home at Lubbock, Albuquerque and Dallas where Don was employed by L.H. Lacy Construction as the paving, truck and plant superintendent. They eventually returned to Walters where he operated Don Wilson Trucking and Excavation for 25 plus years. In 1997 he became the Street Superintendent for the City of Walters, working 10 years with the city.  

Don was a lifelong Baptist. He enjoyed working and giving, as he loved to donate resources and time to many causes through the years.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, George Wilson and Arthur Ray “Hop” Wilson; and 2 nephews, Georg Lee Wilson and Steve Wilson.  

Survivors include his wife, Lydia, of the Home; 2 sons, Cary Bob Farris of Wichita Falls, TX and Forrest Wilson of Walters; a brother, Bobby Leon Wilson of Tecumseh, OK; a sister-in-law, Loretta Pipkin and her husband, Randle; 5 grandchildren, Randi Nicole Farris of Virginia Beach, VA, Joshua Walker of Wichita Falls, Wyatt Allen Wilson and Wade Austin Wilson of Walters, Shelia Cofer of Arlington, TX; 2 great grandchildren, Caden Burris and Caley Burris; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
