Mamie Nava, 79, of Walters, OK Funeral services at Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home Chapel, Walters, OK, Wednesday, June 10 at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Lena Calfy officiating with burial in the Walters Cemetery. Visitation at Hart-Wyatt Chapel, Tuesday evening, June 9 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Mamie Ethel (Tabbytosavit) Nava was born to Samuel and Edith (Poco) Tabbytosavit on October 11, 1935, at Walters, OK and departed this life in Lawton, OK on June 7, 2015, at the age of 79 years, 7 months, and 27 days. Mamie grew up in the Emerson Community west of Walters. She attended Chilocco Indian School and later made her way to Los Angeles, CA, where she met and married Felipe Nava on April 2, 1960. They made their home in the Santa Monica and West Los Angeles area for many years. In the late 1980's they began to make their journey back to Walters. Their move would take them first to Mexico, where they lived for a short time, and then back to California before finally settling again in Walters. She moved with her husband to Lawton, OK, for health reasons in 2006 and returned home to Walters in 2012. Mamie grew up attending church at Emerson Nazarene. As a young woman, she enjoyed dancing, music, camping, and the occasional baking contest. Late in life, she enjoyed doting on her great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death her parents; her husband, Felipe, in 2011; her son, Phillip Nava, Jr. in 2004; her daughter, Linda Marie Murphy in 2008; her granddaughter, Amy Tabbytosavit in 2007; 4 brothers: Jimmy, Nelson "Shorty", Sherman "Butch" and Floyd; and 7 sisters: Opal, Wanda, Thelma "Troubles", Daisy, Ardeana, Ophelia and Ida. Survivors include her granddaughter, Crystal Nava Sparling and her husband David of New York, NY; a great granddaughter, Grey Harper Valentine Sparling; a granddaughter, Fawn Richardson of Lawton, OK; and many other relatives and friends.
