Stella Mendez, 50, Lawton, OK Funeral Service at Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home Chapel, Friday, May 15 at 10:00 a.m., with burial in the Letitia Cemetery east of Lawton. Stella Josephine Mae (McCaig) Mendez was born to James Clinton and Gwendolyn Joyce (Atchison) McCaig on June 3, 1964 at Lawton, OK and departed this life in Lawton, OK on May 11, 2015 at the age of 50 years, 11 months and 8 days. Stella grew up at Lawton. She married Juan Javier Mendez, Jr. on May 10, 1986 at Lawton. Stella worked as a Nurse's Aide at Cedar Crest, Willow Park and McMahon Tomlinson Nursing Homes, as well as, doing home care. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. She enjoyed cleaning and cooking, crossword puzzles, playing Candy Crush and solitaire. She was involved in the lives of her family and friends and stayed up to speed with all the latest news. She was a part of the Citizens Police Academy and served as a precinct official for the Comanche Co. Election Board. She was always willing to help anyone in need, and loved taking care of her grandkids and spoiling them. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Junior, in 2003; and 5 brothers and sisters, James Clinton McCaig, Carol Kerwin, Luther McCaig, Linda Jones, and June Campbell. Survivors include her son, David Ken McCaig, of Lawton; her grandchildren, Lacie Dawn McCaig and Juan Javier McCaig of Lawton; 7 brothers and sisters, Joyce Ann Crow of Harrah, OK, Lois Pflueger of Lawton, Norman Gary McCaig of Uma, AZ, Brenda Barfield of Apache, OK, Rebecca Valdez of Corpus Christy, TX, Cathy Scouten of Lawton and Keith Edward McCaig of Lawton; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
