Mona Codynah, 70, Walters, OK Funeral Services at the Walters Comanche Nation Community Center, Monday, April 6 at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Nick Tahchawwickah and Rev. Lena Calfy officiating. Burial in the Walters Cemetery under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters. A Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday Evening at the community center. LaVonna Ruth "Mona" Codynah was born to Jack Pennah and Dorothy Ruth Tooahnippah on October 20, 1944 at Lawton, OK and departed this life at her home at Emerson, west of Walters, OK, on April 1, 2015 at the age of 70 years, 5 months and 12 days. Mona grew up in the Emerson Community west of Walters and attended Walters Public Schools. Mona was a homemaker but did work various other jobs through the years, such as, Harry's Drive-In, Howard Johnson's, Cotton Bowl, Haggars in Temple and the KCA in Lawton. She married Fred Howard Codynah on January at Burkburnett, TX. They made their home at Emerson where Mona has lived all her life. She was a member of the Comanche Tribe, the Native American Church and the Emerson Nazarene Church. She enjoyed watching the grand and great grandkids play sports, and watching professional wrestling on TV. She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 sisters, Ethel Subieta and Kay Simmons; her grandparents Flora and Wilson Simmons; 2 uncles, Elton and Roy Simmons; and an aunt, Clara Permansu. Survivors include her husband, Fred, of the home; 6 children, her son and daughter-in-law, Donnie and Paulette Wooten of Geronimo, her daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie Farris and T.J. James of Walters, Fred W. "Charlie" Codynah, Pam Codynah and Tanya Codynah all of Lawton, and a special son Robert Simmons; a brother, John Pennah and wife Margaret of Toppenish, WA; a sister Pat Redbone and husband Donnie of Apache, OK; special brother, Kenneth and wife Margie Simmons; special sisters, Marie Eckiwaudah, Bonita Paddyacker and Betty Simmons; her aunt, Betty Fortenberry and husband William of Carthage, MS; 13 grandkids and spouses, Stephanie and Shane Lawrence, Alvina and James Mountain, Mary and William Tosee, Donna and Tristan Johnson, Shane James and granddaughter-in-law Alyssa Flores, Shauna James, Kelly Shawn Codynah, Tristan Codynah, Bella Codynah, Kyle Codynah and Kenya Codynah, Kelsey Codynah, Sonnyrose Codynah; 14 great grandkids, Alex Calfy, Skylar, Shaylee and Shane Lawrence, Abby Love, Rory and Larkyn Mountain, Jay and Denise Tosee, Flo and Mo, Geibriel Johnson, Briley Munchel and one on the way; a special nephew and wife, Monte and Jennifer Simmons; a special niece and husband, Sherry and Michael Pueblo; and special grandkids, Nathan and Adrian Pueblo; and a host of other relatives and friends.
