Leon Sevier, 87, Duncan, OK Graveside Service at the Walters Cemetery, Walters, OK, Saturday, April 4 at 10:30 a.m., Rev. John Croy officiating under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters. Leon Irving Sevier was born to Joseph Edward and Bertha Mae (Hicks) Sevier on January 19, 1928 at Coalgate, OK and departed this life in Lawton, OK, on March 31, 2015 at the age of 87 years, 2 months and 12 days. Leon grew up in Coal County attending school at Olney, OK. He entered the U.S. Army on October 3, 1946 serving in Japan during WWII. Upon returning from the war, Leon attended East Central College and then drove a cab while attending Dalton Business College in Lawton. He married Marie Joyce Chockpoyah and they soon moved to Enid, OK, where he drove a pipe truck in the oilfield before going to work for Champlin Oil. In 1951 they moved to Velma, OK where he was employed by Amos Cope Well Service. In 1963, he and Marie moved their family to Porterville, CA, where they both attended school to become licensed Psychiatric Technicians working for the state. In 1972 they returned to Oklahoma and moved back to Duncan, OK, once again working for Jack Oil Company, retiring in 1989. He was a rock-hound and enjoyed collecting rocks and stones from all over the world. He also played various stringed instruments and loved making music with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; 5 brothers, Odell, Elmer, Jack, Dennis and Doug Sevier; and 2 sisters, Mae Lena Woodell and Laverna Sue Sevier. Survivors include, his wife, Marie J. Sevier of Lawton; 2 sons, Leon Sevier Jr. and wife Gwenda Jean, and Kenneth Ray Sevier all of Noble, OK; 2 brothers, Randall and wife Mary Sevier of Duncan, Lonnie and wife Ann Sevier of Hephzibah, GA; 2 sisters, Hazel Hummel and husband Karl of Dallas, TX, and Thula Ann Kehnemund of Konawa, OK; 5 grandsons, Marshall Leon and wife April, Christopher and wife Sandra, Jesse and fiancé Jennifer, Donald and wife Katrina, and Dakota; 7 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
