Effie Lou Smith, 96, Lawton, OK Effie Lou (Norman) Smith was born to Thomas Hamilton and Lillie Mae (Petty) Norman on February 14, 1919 west of Walters, OK and departed this life in Temple, OK on February 13, 2015 at the age of 95 years, 11 months and 30 days. Effie Lou grew up in the Walters Community, graduating from Walters High School in 1937. She married Dr. Henry C. Smith on July 13, 1950 at First United Methodist Church in Walters. They made their home in Walters until moving with his medical practice to Lawton in the spring of 1957. She was a homemaker, but also did payroll and bookkeeping in Henry's office for several years. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and had been a member of the Lawton Country Club for many years. She enjoyed trips to Las Vegas, playing Black Jack and loved to play Bridge with her "Dirty Penny" group. She also enjoyed watching westerns, OU Sooner and Dallas Cowboy football, and Atlanta Brave baseball. Effie Lou was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dr. Henry Smith on April 5, 1991; two sons, Russell Wayne Baker and Thomas Stafford Smith; two brothers, Buster and Herbert "Hub" Norman; and two sisters, Allene Shepard and Inez Alvarado. Survivors include a daughter, Phoebe Lou Baker Sealy and husband Jim of Lancaster, TX; a son, William Henry Smith and wife Patti of Walters, OK; 4 grandchildren, Kara Miller and husband Chad, Audra Castle and husband Al, Jessica Smith and Russell Smith; 5 great grandchildren, Jackson and Evelyn Miller, Natalie, Kiara and Andre Smith; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
