Marvin Scherler, 84, Walters, OK A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 27 at the Walters High School Auditorium. Interment at the Walters Cemetery under the Direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home. Adored by his wife Trecyl, 3 children, 10 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren, Marvin Ray Scherler was cherished and respected by both his family and the Cotton County community. Marvin was born on December 21, 1930 to Herman Emil and Elizabeth Maier Scherler in the Ahpeatone community, west of Walters and went to be with the Lord on December 23, 2014, in his home West of Walters at the age of 84 years and 2 days. A natural born leader, Marvin's vibrant personality was apparent from an early age. In 1948, a beautiful girl by the name of Trecyl Daugherty, stole Marvin's heart, and 66 years later their love for one another only grew stronger through the test of time. The Lord knew she was the only woman strong enough to keep up with his political and community interests, joke telling, and big appetite. His grandchildren kept him young at heart, and he was always their biggest cheerleader. From chauffeuring them to school, to attending their events, to reading the Christmas story each Christmas Eve, he poured abundant love onto his family members. A farmer and cattleman, Marvin dedicated his time to insure that rural areas had access to water, farm credit, and electricity. Marvin was a connector of people and ideas, and he continually sought to improve his community. He was a firm believer in the cooperative business concept as a means to influence change, and he claimed that being involved made him a better farmer. People who knew him best described him as a gifted leader, totally honest, and a dedicated, sincere Christian.' He has served on various boards such as the Oklahoma Association of Electric Co-ops, Cotton County Farmers Union, Oklahoma Rural Water Association, Walters Co-op Elevator, Cotton Electric and the Cotton County Rural Water Board to name a few. As one of the founding fathers of the National Rural Water Association, he worked hard to provide water to rural communities both locally and nationally. He has received several esteemed awards including: the National Rural Water Association Man of the Year, Progressive Farmer Man of the Year, Cotton County Conservationist of the Year, and Oklahoma Water Association Man of the Year, and he was most recently inducted into the OAEC Rural Electric Hall of Fame. Marvin's presence will be missed at the Walters Church of Christ - where he served as an elder from 1968 to 2001, at Cotton Electric Board Meetings - where he served for over 40 years, and at Salas' - where he fine dined most Sunday's after Church. Despite all of his accomplishments, his greatest achievement was his faith and devotion to His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, of which he was a wonderful example for his family and friends. After celebrating his 84th birthday on December 21st, Marvin, who was surrounded by loved ones, passed peacefully. He is survived by his wife Trecyl, sister Beth Barnhart, his daughter and son-in-law June and Roger Cromwell; two sons and daughters-in-law Douglas and Michelle Scherler, and Stanley and Kim Scherler; grandchildren Jeremy and Joey Scherler, Holly and Clay McKinney, Taylor Scherler, Cade Cromwell, Charisa and Steve Winfrey, Summer and Rob Thiele, Ryan and Emily Scherler, Jill, Kacie, and Sydney Scherler; and twelve great-grandchildren, Logan, Keaton, and Cooper McKinney, Jorja and Jewel Scherler, Jameson Scherler, Avery Cromwell, Mallory and Oliver Winfrey, Roger Thiele, Jocelyn and Finnegan Scherler. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Dorothy, Eileen, and Clarence. Memorial contributions can be made to the Walters Church of Christ Ladies Bible Class. Donations will go toward cancer research and other community needs.
