Chris Elledge, 67, Lawton, OK Memorial Service at Centenary United Methodist Church, Lawton, Saturday, December 27 at 2:00 p.m., under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters. Chris Coover Elledge was born to Maurice Coover and Una Madora "Peggy" (Shepard) Elledge on December 29, 1946 at Chickasha, OK and departed this life at his home in Lawton, OK on December 23, 2014 at the age of 67 years, 11 months and 24 days. Chris grew up in Lawton attending Whittier Elementary, Tomlinson Jr. High and graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1965. He attended Cameron for a time before being drafted into the U.S. Army, serving 2 years during the Vietnam War. He married Deborah Lee McLean on August 27, 1967 at the Old Post Chapel at Ft. Sill. The couple has had a blast together since their mid-teens. Chris went to work for his dad at the monument shop around the age of 12 and his love of cutting stone has never waned. He took over the operation around 1977 when Lawton Monument moved to its current location. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church. He has loved watching drag races on TV while snuggling with his dog Lucy Boo. He has also enjoyed fishing, barbequing and he loved being at the monument shop. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Peggy. Survivors include his wife, Debbie, of the home; his son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Kelly Elledge of Elgin; his daughter and son-in-law, Sam and David Atchley of Lawton; 2 sisters, Peggy Long of Santa Fe, NM and Patti Elledge of North Carolina; 3 grandchildren, Toni Sumpter of Apache, OK, Cameron Atchley of Lawton and Coover Elledge of Elgin; 2 great grandchildren, Knox Atchley and Noah Sumpter; other relatives and many friends.
