Richard Dan Lewallen was born to Daniel Webster and Martha Mae (Luke) Lewallen on October 1, 1943 at Walters, OK and departed this life in Lawton, OK on August 11, 2014 at the age of 70 years, 10 months and 10 days. Richard grew up at Walters, graduating from WHS in 1961. He worked for Hewitt Furniture from 1961 to 1969 as a salesman. From 1969 to 1974 he ran the movie projector in both the Thompson Theater in Walters and a Lawton Theater, as well as, at the drive-in theaters at both towns. On February 24, 1974 he went to work as the Assistant Fire Chief in Walters under Chief Ray Ewing and on May 1, 1988 was named Chief. He retired on February 28, 2009 after 35 years with the department. His job was his life and he took it seriously. He did enjoyed helping people and has also enjoyed several trips to Red River, NM, to ride four-wheelers. He served his country honorably in the Oklahoma National Guard from 1964 to 1982. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Earlene Bayse; and his brother, Kenneth Lewallen. Survivors include 2 sisters, Debbie West of Collinsville, OK and Cherrie Lewallen of Tulsa, OK; 4 nieces and nephews, Staci Williams-Lion, Jared Lewallen, Chris Lewallen and Jeffery Hawkins; 8 great nieces and nephews, Brandi, Aaron, Matthew, Caiden, Cooper, Ethan, Kendal, Skylar and Chloe; a great-great nephew, Michael Jr.; many other relatives and friends.
