Resa (Kinney) Harvick, 50, Walters, OK Funeral Services at First Baptist Church in Walters, Saturday, August 9 at 10:00 a.m., Rev. Richard Stillwell officiating with burial in the Walters Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters. Memorial donations can be made to [email protected] , Walters Education Foundation, 418 S. Resa DeAnn (Kinney) Harvick was born to James Frank and Lois Marie (Kerr) Kinney on February 22, 1964 at Lawton, OK and departed this life on August 5, 2014 in Walters, OK at the age of 50 years, 5 months and 14 days. Resa grew up at Walters, graduating from WHS in 1982. She then went on to attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University where she received her Bachelors in Education. She taught her first year at Maple Independent School District in 1986 and then began teaching second grade at Clinton. She married Russell Potter on April 18, 1987 at First Baptist Church in Walters and to the union a daughter, Madison, was born. They made their home at Clinton where Resa taught for 7 years. Resa took the Elementary Principal job at Big Pasture Public Schools at Randlett, OK in 1994, making her home in Walters. She soon completed her Masters Degree in School Administration at Southwestern and continued working at Big Pasture until hired at Pioneer Park Elementary in Lawton. For the past several years she has served as Principal at Crosby Park Elementary in Lawton. Resa grew up attending First Baptist Church in Walters and was very active in all aspects of high school. She drove a truck on wheat harvest with her family for 10 years through the mid 70's and 80's. She enjoyed pageants and was the first to be crowned Miss Wheat at the National Wheat Harvest Festival. She also served as Master of Ceremonies several times for the Miss Walters Pageant. She enjoyed quilting with Beca and loved playing the piano and singing. She was involved with several associations and served on numerous boards to include: Lawton Association of Elementary Principals, Oklahoma Association Elementary School Principals, National Association of Elementary School Principals, Lawton Area Reading Council, PTA and Booster Club, Cooperative Council for Oklahoma, Oklahoma School Administration, Cameron Elementary Education Advisory Board, Oklahoma Educators Association, National Educators Association, Leadership Team and the Cotton County Board of Health. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Pencie Kinney, Joe and Ida Kerr. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Madison and Seth Geiger of Tahlequah, OK; her grandson on the way, Hayden Wayne Geiger; her parents, Frank and Lois Kinney of Walters; her sister and brother-in-law, Laura and Jerry Johnston of Elk City, OK; special friend, Kallon Blehm of Carnegie; nieces and nephews, Abby Barber, Kylie Barber, Reid Barber, Camden Jay and Shiann Johnston; a great niece, Emma Griffin; other special family members, Don and JoAnn Potter, Richard and Beca Potter, Tyson Potter, Taylor and Ryan Noland, Olivia Potter, Randall Potter, Chris and Adam Potter, Barbara and Gary Tahmahkera, Kerry and Kelsey Tahmahkera; many other relatives and a host friends.
