Ewing Phillips, 101, of Walters, OK Henry Ewing Phillips was born to Henry Harrison and Nina (Harlin) Phillips on May 1, 1913 at Walters, OK and went to be with the Lord in Lawton, OK on July 27, 2014 at the age of 101 years, 2 months and 26 days. Ewing grew up at Walters and attended school at Soldier Creek where he proudly finished the 8th grade in 1929. He then went on to business school at Lawton and told of how he would hitchhike home on weekends. Later he and Kenneth Ballard moved to Shawnee, OK to manage a farm. This is where Ewing and Kenneth met Faye and Loretta Geyer, the loves of their lives. They married the Geyer girls and rescued them from the "blackjacks country." He and Faye were married on July 29, 1940 and made their home northwest of Walters, raising cows, chickens, turkeys and farming the land. He worked at Ft. Sill for a time before getting into the dairy business. He enjoyed working on the farm, hunting, fishing, raising dogs, and going to the flea market to make a good trade. Being an outdoor person he loved God's creation and attended church regularly. He used to tell how his mom, Nina Phillips Teakell a widow at the time, would load him and his 3 brothers up in the horse pulled buggy and take them to the New Salem Baptist Church where he was a lifetime member and Sunday School Director. He was preceded in death by his wife, Faye; his parents, Nina Phillips Teakell and Henry Harrison Phillips; a grandson, David Lovett; a great grandson, Clay Edward Lovett-Rhyne; 5 brothers, Ruben Phillips, Kenneth Phillips, Max Phillips, John R. Teakell and J. W. Teakell; 2 sisters, Jewell Rupe and Grace Pentcost; and a son-in-law, Jerry Allen. Survivors include 2 daughters, Patty Hardin and Iona Allen of Walters; 5 grandchildren and their spouses, Steve and Diane Hardin, Sherrie and Keith Copass, Mitzi and Gary Copass all of Walters, Terry Lovett-Rhyne of Moore, OK, John and Debbie Allen of Benton, AR; 23 great grandchildren; 25 great-great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
