J C "Tuffy" Casteel

J C "Tuffy" Casteel was born to Jim Calvin and Frona Elizabeth (White) Casteel on October 17, 1921at Davis, OK and departed this life on July 22, 2014 in Temple, OK at the age of 92 years, 9 months and 5 days. Tuffy grew up southwest of Chillicothe, TX in the Medicine Mounds Community, graduating at the top of his class and for a time held the state record for the 100 yard dash in Texas. He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps serving his country honorably in Okinawa during WWII. Upon returning from the war he taught vocational classes in welding and machinery at Midwestern University in Wichita Falls. He married Joyce A. "Jill" Patton on June 29, 1942 at Altus, OK. They made their home at Chillicothe and then Ft. Worth before settling at Temple in 1952. At that time he opened Casteel's Blacksmith and Welding Shop which he operated until turning the shop over to his son, Jackie, in 1982. Upon retiring he and Jill were able to spend more time on their antique and glassware business, as they enjoyed going to every garage sale and auction they could find. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Temple. He had finished a term on the Temple City Council, serving as Mayor. He enjoyed traveling and doing whatever Jill wanted. Tuffy loved spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids. He enjoyed spice cake, pumpkin pie and coffee, and loved eating at Leo and Ken's Truck Stop in Lawton. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jill; a grandson, Jody Henderson; 2 brothers, Harvel Casteel and Walter Casteel; and a sister, Era Bogard. Survivors include 3 children and their spouses, Jim Paul & Mischa Casteel of Sachse, TX, Shari and Jim Henderson, Jackie and Kim Casteel all of Temple; 2 sisters, Patsey Wilson and Lavern Taylor both of Vernon, TX; 5 grandchildren and spouses, Carrie and Jon Gooch of Sachse, TX, Jay Casteel of Lawton, Jim Bob Henderson of Temple, T J and Rebba Casteel of Minco, OK and Cason Casteel of Temple; 9 great grandchildren, Andrew, Zack, Lexi, Caleb, Laurie, Nick, Gracee, Illeana and Ysabella; other relatives and many friends.
