Edward Dewayne Smith was born to William Henry "Doc" and Illa Mae (Moore) Smith on August 19, 1927 at Hastings, OK and departed this life in Marlow, OK on July 20, 2014 at the age of 86 years, 11 months and 1 day. Dewayne grew up at Hastings. He married Doris Emerine Barnes on July 15, 1945 at Duncan, OK and he soon enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving his country honorably. The couple made their home in California early on before moving to Fort Worth where Dewayne worked for GM at Arlington from 1958 to 1960. They returned to the farm at Hastings in 1960 and he farmed along with working for the Carpenters Local Union in Wichita Falls, TX. Dewayne was a member of the Hastings Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, living on the farm, harvesting pecans, gardening and playing dominos. He also enjoyed helping with carpentry and maintenance at the church. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bill Smith. Survivors include his wife, Doris, of the home; 2 sons, Darrell Smith and wife Jayne of Lanigan, Saskatchewan, Canada and James DeRay Smith of Hastings; a daughter, Dee Gillespie and husband Michael of Hastings; 2 brothers, Bud Smith of Whitesboro, TX and Ken Smith of Hastings; a sister, Loretta Lindesmith of Waurika, OK; 7 grandchildren, Paul Smith, Patrick Smith, Robin Smith, Heather Van Buskirk, Monica Timperio, Trevor Smith and Chance Smith; 11 great grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.
