Bobby Ray Whitney was born the oldest son of A G and Anna Grace (Carr) Whitney on July 13, 1942 on a ranch near Harrison, AR and departed this life and went to be with his beloved Mary at OU Medical Center, Oklahoma City, on July 14, 2014 at the age of 72 years and 1 day. When the Vietnam War broke out he volunteered and was rejected because of eye sight which had been damaged in an accident when he was a toddler. He was then drafted and failed the physical again. His mother had taken him to an Oral Roberts revival when he was young and he reported after that he didn't have to wear glasses for several years. The family moved to California and Bob was raised there. He worked in a number of states and jobs before moving to Oklahoma around 1970. He worked in the oilfield for a time, then he worked for the Turnpike Authority and Cotton County doing road maintenance until his retirement after about 32 years. He married Mary Fay Sturdivant on December 7, 1971in Las Vegas and she preceded him in death after 37 happy years. He later married Claudette Daniel. Bob was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Walters, as well as, the Lawton Rebekah Lodge and the Lawton Iris Society. He is survived by his wife of the home; a sister, Ellen and her husband Elmer McCain of Valdez, AK; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Mary; his sister Helen; and brothers, Donald Wayne and Arthur Gene Whitney.
