Steven James "Steve" Brent was born to John William and Marilyn Jean (Miller) Brent on May 9, 1965 at Orange, CA and departed this life in Lawton, OK on July 11, 2014 at the age of 49 years, 2 months and 2 days. Steve grew up in Orange, CA until moving to Hobbs, NM, as a freshman. He graduated from Hobbs High School in 1983 and attended some college before entering the U.S. Army in 1984. He married Kay Lynn Atwood on October 14, 1994 at Hobbs and soon received orders for Ft. Riley, KS. After 10 months in Kansas the family was headed to Ft. Sill, OK, and decided to make Walters their home in October of 1995. After 16 years of honorable service to his country, Steve opted out and eventually went to work at PPG at Burkburnett, TX. He was employed there until his health wavered around the year 2005. The family moved to Elgin, OK, in 2012. Steve was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Walters. He enjoyed collecting coins, hunting, fishing, gardening, watching NASCAR and spending time with family. He was preceded in death by his father and his brother, John William Brent, Jr. Survivors include his wife, Kay, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Bailey and Ashley Atwood of Cache, OK; a daughter, Caitlyn Brent of the home; a grandson, Phoenix Alexander Atwood; his mother, Marilyn Harmon of Hobbs; 2 sisters, Kathy Joslin of Hobbs, NM and Liz Riebe of Pahrump, NV; his father-in-law, Norris Atwood of Elgin; other relatives and a host of friends.
