Lorena Bell Ledford was born to William Julius and Mary Ethel (Rash) Hoodenpyle on February 15, 1914, west of Walters, OK and departed this life in Lawton, OK on February 11, 2014 at the age of 99 years, 11 months and 27 days. Lorena grew up in the Emerson Community west of Walters. She attended a rural school before complete 10th through 12th grades at Walters, graduating in 1930. She married James Taft Ledford on July 22, 1932 at Walters. They raised their 3 sons in the Walters and Duncan areas before moving to Lawton in 1958. She was a homemaker, midwife, and was secretary for Ledford Concrete for several years. She was a longtime member of Southside Baptist Church serving treasurer for fifty years and was active with the WMU. Her membership is currently at First Baptist Church. She was an avid quilter for many years and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, doing puzzles and solving the cryptogram in the newspaper. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Taft, in 1989; 3 sons, James, Martin and Tom Ledford; a sister, Mary Bruton; 2 brothers, Martin and Leon Hoodenpyle. She is survived by 3 daughters-in-law, Retha Ledford of Marlow, OK, Lynn Ledford of Arlington, TX and Robbie Ledford of Elgin, OK; 9 grandchildren, Robin Howard of Waurika, OK, twins, Lesley Coleman of Highland Village, TX, and Lynette Pena of Arlington, Brian Ledford and Carrie Brannon both of Seattle, WA, Tommy Ledford of Argyle, TX, Toni Ledford and son, Landon, of the home, Jennifer Donnelly and Robert Ledford both of Elgin; 16 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews including Louise Calfy Fulton of Duncan, OK; other relatives and friends.
