Wanda McDowell, 80, of Temple, OK Wanda June (Carney) McDowell was born to Albert John and Beatrice Elizabeth (Brashears) Carney on February 27, 1933 at Walters and departed this life at Temple, OK on February 10, 2014 at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 14 days. Wanda grew up at Walters, graduating from WHS in 1950. She married Herbert L. McDowell on April 14, 1950 at Burkburnett, TX. They made their home in Cotton County, but for a year at Ft. Rucker, Alabama where Herbert worked on Bell Helicopters. They settled on a farm northwest of Temple, OK, around 1955. She was a great homemaker and had also received her LPN from Red River Vo-Tech, working some at both Temple Manor and Parkview Manor Nursing Homes. Wanda was a member of the First Baptist Church in Temple. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, photography, cooking, playing cards and dominoes, and doing for others rather than herself. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herbert in 1992; two brothers, Rick and Clyde Carney; and a grandson, Kris Rupe. Survivors include 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Tresa McDowell Allen and Richard G. of Marietta, GA, Marsha Nichols and Doyle D. of Montgomery, TX, and Kimberly McDowell of Wichita Falls, TX; a son and daughter-in-law, David McDowell and Nannette of Walters; 2 brothers, Floyd Carney of Ocala, FL and Fred Carney and wife Dorothy of Snyder, OK; 4 grandchild, Cher Attwell and husband James of The Woodlands, TX, Samantha Williams and husband Chris of Galveston, TX, Kody McDowell and wife Kelly of Walters, Bridget Legnon and husband Jeff of Wichita Falls, TX; 7 great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
