Theola Marie Nichols was born to William Wheeler and Myrtle Sally (McAlister) Pennington near Temple, OK, on March 11, 1917 and departed this life in Duncan, OK on February 1, 2014 at the age of 96 years, 10 months and 21 days. Theola grew up in the Hulen Community northeast of Walters. She married Horace Erwin Nichols on June 24, 1939 at the Baptist parsonage in Walters with Pastor Percy Haley Jr. presiding and witnessed by Archie Lee Fletcher and Rena L Hutton. Theola was baptized and became a member of First Baptist Church. She and Horace made their home southwest of Walters in the Soldier Valley area. They moved to the "Stinken Olé Hill" 10 miles east of Walters in 1951and became active at Corum Baptist Church. They later moved to town, living in Walters from 1968 to 1983. They moved to Livingston, TX around 1984 and upon Horace's death in 1991 she made the decision to return to Oklahoma making her home in Duncan. Theola enjoyed being a homemaker and taking care of her 7 children who were all raised in Cotton County. She worked for Walters Public Schools for many years as well. Through years she also enjoyed games, crafts, quilting, sewing, cooking and music. She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Sr.; 11 brothers and sisters; and 2 grandchildren, Eric Norman and Christina Koble. Survivors include 7 children and their spouses, Judith K and Doyle Martin of Houston, TX, Michael J Nichols and Judy of Allen, TX, L Douglas Nichols and Linda of Duncan, OK, Vicki L Norman and F.L. "Buz" Norman of Ingram, TX, Horace E Nichols, Jr. and Debbie of Duncan, Doyle D Nichols and Marsha of Montgomery, TX, and Pamela L West of Duncan; one sister, Ethel Stephenson of Las Vegas, NV; 18 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends.
