Lewis Hubbard Rackley was born to Lewis Karl and Margaret Emma (Hubbard) Rackley on October 30, 1925 at Anniston, AL and departed this life in Waurika, OK on January 24, 2014 at the age of 88 years, 2 months and 25 days. The second oldest of 10 children, Lewis grew up in the Cookietown area of Cotton County attending Union Valley School. He married Dona Pearl Turner on September 16, 1946 in Cowley County, Kansas. They raised their 6 children in Alabama, then upon retiring moved to California for a time before settling at Walters, OK in 1985. For the past 2 years they resided at Temple Manor Nursing Home in Temple, OK where Dona preceded him in death on November 8, 2013. As a young man Lewis joined the United States Army, serving during the WWII Era. While serving as a medic in the Army, Lewis also played pitcher on the Army's fast pitch softball team. Upon his discharge from the service he was soon hired by the Monsanto Company, as they wanted him to pitch for the company softball team. He eventually went to work for Diamond Alkali which later became known as Diamond Shamrock. He retired after 30 plus years with the company at Muscle Shoals, AL, serving as chemical plant supervisor and later the plant safety coordinator. Until his health failed Lewis was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving faithfully in various capacities for many years. Through the years he also enjoyed softball and golf. Lewis was preceded in death by his wife; a brother, Patrick Earl; 2 sisters, Virginia Mae and Martha; and a son, David Rackley. Survivors include 5 children, Shirley Haskew of Colorado, Peggy Roth of Texas, Howard Rackley and Dale Rackley both of California, and Gayle Rackley of New Hampshire; 6 brothers and sisters, Earnest, Gladys, John, Girel, Bill and Ray; 25 grandchildren, many many great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
