Flora Irene (Howell) McDavid Ford was born to James Walter and Oma Lee (Robinson) Howell on April 8, 1920 in Walters, OK and departed this life in Walters on August 4, 2013 at the age of 93 years, 3 months and 27 days. Irene grew up southwest of Walters attending a rural school and eventually Walters Schools. She married Cecil Ernest McDavid and to the union 4 children were born. Irene went to work at the Haggar slacks factory in Temple upon its opening in 1956. She made her home in Texas for a time where she was employed at LTV in Fort Worth. She married Thurston Watson "Ted" Ford on August 19, 1974 and the couple made their home on her farm southwest of Walters. Irene enjoyed dancing, playing cards and watching sports on TV, especially OU football, Thunder basketball, Serena Williams playing tennis and the Dallas Cowboys. She was a longtime member of the Walters Roundup Club. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ted Ford; 3 brothers; 3 sisters; a daughter, Loretta McDavid; and a grandson, Kevin McDavid. Survivors include her daughter, Linda Hefler of Walters; 2 sons, James McDavid and wife Marilyn of Brentwood, CA, Jerry McDavid and wife Leah of Fort Worth, TX; 4 stepdaughters, Patty Ensch, Nitabelle Harold, Sue Cocherell and Bess Farrington; a stepson, Hyland Ford; 5 grandchildren, Teresa Hefler Pack, Jeff Hefler, Jeromy Hefler, Hope Janzen and Jimmy McDavid; 8 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; numerous step-grandkids; many other relatives and friends.
