Jonathan W. Rhodes

June 12, 1951 — July 3, 2013

Jonathan Wainwright Rhodes was born to Walton Jerome and Ollie Eve (Calfy) Rhodes on June 12, 1951 at Walters, OK and departed this life at his home west of Walters on July 3, 2013 at the age of 62 years and 21 days. He grew up west of Walters in the Ahpeatone Community where he attended school until it closed and then finished in Walters, graduating from WHS in 1970. He went on to graduate from Cameron University with bachelor degrees in History and Elementary Education. While in college he worked as a carryout boy at the Ft. Sill Commissary. After college he taught school at Apache, then worked for Solitaire for a time before going to work at Southwestern Bell in Lawton. He was eventually transferred to Oklahoma City, retiring from SBC in 2003 with over 25 years of service. He has also been engaged in farming which he has enjoyed his entire life. He was a longtime member of the Emerson Baptist Church and for the past year has enjoyed attending First Presbyterian Church in Walters. He was first and foremost a grandpa but also enjoyed model cars, reading and antiquing. He was a movie buff, an artist and was a dollhouse and miniature furniture maker. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walton and Ollie Rhodes. Survivors include his son, Jimmy Don Rhodes of Lawton; 3 sisters and their spouses, Lorna Rhodes of Temple, Ruth and Bill Seward of Temple, Janet and Orrin Munger of Enid, OK; a grandson, Bryan Rhodes and wife Christy Joy of Lawton; 6 great grandchildren, Shawn Kyle, Hope Joy, Reagan Joy, Bryan Dale Jr., Bradley Daniel and Natalie Joy all of Lawton; a special longtime friend, Karen Myers of Oklahoma City; other relatives and many friends.
