Mary Elizabeth Simmons

Mary Elizabeth (Williams) Simmons was born to Alvin Monroe and Anna Mae (Morton) Williams on April 29, 1935 at Waurika, OK and departed this life at her home Duncan, OK, after losing her fight with breast cancer on June 10, 2013 at the age of 78 years, 1 month and 12 days. Mary grew up attending Liberty Grade School and Comanche High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Franklin D. Simmons, on Sunday, May 20, 1951 following Franklin's high school baccalaureate assembly. Through the years she worked at the American Legion building as a waitress for various civic organization lunches before being employed by Security National Bank in the proof department, eventually becoming supervisor. She later owned and operated Mary's Playhouse (a ceramic shop) and worked for the Stephens County Election Board. She enjoyed horseback riding, fishing, crocheting, quilting, as well as painting and creating as she worked with her ceramics. She and Franklin enjoyed riding with various groups in the covered wagon he had built and they participated in the Oklahoma Land Run Celebration, driving the mules and wagon from Kansas to Guthrie, OK. She was preceded in death by her husband Franklin, and her parents, Alvin M. and Anna Mae Williams. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Dianna Simmons of Marlow, OK; 2 grandsons, Keenon Davis and wife Amanda of Fletcher, OK and Cole R. Davis of Austin, TX; a great grandson, Brennon Davis of Fletcher; 2 sisters, Margie Franklin of Nashville, AR, and Clara McAlister of Comanche, OK; a brother, John F. Williams of Duncan; and a host of nieces and nephews.
