Janice Ruth (Melton) Penrod was born to Jesse Lee and Mary Lena (Johnson) Melton on September 23, 1950 and departed this life in Lawton, OK on May 14, 2013 at the age of 62 years, 7 months and 21 days. Janice started school at Big Pasture in Randlett, OK, but over the next few years the family worked their way across the country to California, eventually returning to Walters. She married Dannie Joe Penrod on December 27, 1968 at Wichita Falls, TX. They made their home in the Walters and Woodward areas until settling in Walters in 1974. Janice was a homemaker and a member of the Bible Baptist Church. She loved reading God's Word and attending church. She enjoyed fishing, going to flea markets, raising chickens, bird watching and spending time with the grandkids and her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Dannie in 2007; an infant brother, Oscar Howard Melton; and a sister, Marlene Rankins. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Victor and Shelly Penrod of Walters; 6 brothers and sisters, Howard Melton of Moneta, VA, Wanda Newman of Comanche, OK, Wilford Melton of Marlow, OK, Eugene Melton of Mannsville, OK, Alice Denham of Duncan, OK and Carolyn Denham of Rush Springs, OK; 2 grandchildren, Carlee Penrod and Logan Penrod of Walters; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
