Donald Ray "D.R." Smith was born to William Lawrence and Alma Mae (Foster) Smith on October 28, 1938 at Grandfield, OK and departed this life in Walters, OK on February 11, 2013 at the age of 74 years, 3 months and 14 days. Donald Ray grew up in the Walters area. He married Connie Joyce Mullins on March 30, 1957 at Wichita Falls, TX and to the union 7 children were born. The family followed the oilfield around living in several states and eventually returned to Walters where they have made their home for the past 45 years. Through the years he worked as a roughneck, driller, pumper, tool pusher and as the boss. He started the Walters Well Service in 1978, S&S Production in 1980 and D.R. Smith Cattle in 2001. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Walters. He enjoyed time with family and friends, fishing and camping, making river rats of the whole family. He especially loved spending time with his grandkids. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Mark Smith in 1995; 2 brothers, Jimmy Smith and infant brother Richard Smith; a sister, Doris Scaggs; and a granddaughter, Amanda Smith. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Connie of the home; 4 daughters and their spouses, Brenda and Mark Dowlen of Walters, Vickie Smith of Walters, Lisa and Michael Russell of Lawton, Trullee and John James of Walters; 2 sons and their wives, Richard and Shannon Smith, Justin and Kristie Smith all of Walters; a brother and his wife, Alfred and Linda Smith of Walters; 4 sisters and their husbands, Betty Wilson, Annie and Dale Wampler all of Walters, Ellen Brown of Duncan, OK, Bonnie and Glenn McInnis of Houston, TX; 14 grandchildren, Scotty, Braylin, Misty, Candice, T.J., Nikki, Kristen, Ryder, Dalton, Jessicka, Noah, Ty, Kadyn and Hadlee; 11 great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends.
