Betty Sue Cox

Betty Sue (Grooms) Cox was born to Elmer and Mattie Louise (Branum) Grooms on July 9, 1954 at Lawton, OK and departed this life in Duncan, OK on January 20, 2013 at the age of 58 years, 6 months and 11 days. Betty grew up at Lawton attending Roosevelt Elementary, Central Jr. High and Lawton High School. She married Burt Olen Cox, Jr. on June 9, 1989 at Walters and they made their home in Geronimo until moving to Walters in 2002. She was employed at Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Walters as the head cook and also worked as a nurse's aide. She has most recently worked in the kitchen at the VA Center at Lawton. Through the years she had been a barrel racer and served as queen of the Bishop Riders Club and was a member of the Silver Spur Square Dance Club. She loved her grandkids and loved helping people. She did a lot of volunteer work, and loved making afghans and doing crossword puzzles. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Donald Wayne Wilson; and a brother, Jesse Sovac. Survivors include her husband Burt Cox of the home; 2 daughters, Shannon Smith and Bobbie Jo Wilson both of Lawton; a step-daughter, Winter Dawn Cox of Atoka; a brother, Elmer Dale Grooms and wife Theresa of Elgin; a sister, Patsy Sampley and husband Ray of Lawton; 9 grandchildren, Sidney Swanson, Josh Smith, Greg Smith, Jr., Austin Lee Wilson, Brianna Wilson, Ace, Angel, Stormy and Lillie Moreland; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends
