Rubena Mae (Nelson) Nichols Gillispie was born to Ruben Columbus "R.C." and Louda Bama (Cofield) Nelson on May 27, 1934 at Walters, OK and departed this life in Lexington, OK on November 17, 2012 at the age of 78 years, 5 months and 21 days. She grew up on a farm near Temple, OK, one of 6 children. The family eventually moved to town and Rubena graduated from Temple High where she was a striking cheerleader for the football and basketball teams. She was the football queen and was a talented singer in a girl's quartet. She eventually moved to Lawton and on to various other towns finally settling in Lexington. Though Rubena has been ill for many years, she is remembered by sister Gari Kyle as "being the most glamorous in the family, so popular, so much fun and so very beautiful, with a flair for wearing clothes well." Rubena was preceded in death by parents and also by siblings Iris Shelby, Ralph Nelson, Royce Nelson, and Andrea Edwards. Survived by her sister Gari Kyle and husband Paul; a daughter Kimberly Danley and husband Dan; a son Kyle Nichols and Daughter Roseanna Mills; her grandchildren, Matthew Kelly, Michelle Gill, Kenneth Gill, Kristopher Nichols and Kendrick Nichols; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friend.
