Zella Loretta (Shelton) Newby was born to James Henry Shelton and Mary Ellen (Anglin) Newby on April 30, 1921 at Patterson, OK and departed this life in Lawton, OK on October 13, 2012 at the age of 91 years, 5 months and 13 days. Zella grew up in the Randlett, Madill and Willis, OK areas. She married Robert Newby on February 14, 1944 at Walters and to the union 3 children were born. Zella worked at the Haggar Slacks Factory in Temple, the Senior Citizens Center and Nutrition Center in Walters. Through the years she was also willing to take on cleaning and caretaking jobs to help provide for the family She was a member of New Salem Baptist Church. She loved God and her church was the center of her life. She loved being with family and when she was younger enjoyed traveling. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Virgil Shelton; 6 sisters, Renier Dunn, Loraine "Sis" Stevens, Annie Whitehead, Lois Turner, Estelle Riddles and Elaine Hargis; and a grandson, James Robert "Jim Bob" Allen. Survivors include a brother, Haskell Shelton and wife Shirley of McBride, OK; 2 sons their spouses, Bobby and Anita Newby of Cookietown, Paul and Debbie Newby of Walters; a daughter, Mary Allen of Wilson, OK; 13 grandchildren, David Newby, Jessie Allen, James Ingram, James Stevens, Joe Allen, Damon Manning, Bobby Labrie, Dana Gilliam, Judy Hill, Jennifer Kirkpatrick, Kimberly Williams and Lisa Newby; 34 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
