Ruby Mae (Hilliard) Harris was born to Jessie P. and Nora A. (Cranford) Hilliard on February 22, 1919 at Pecan Grove, Texas and departed this life at Lawton, OK on October 1, 2012 at the age of 93 years, 7 months and 9 days. The ninth of ten children, Ruby came to Oklahoma at the age of six months and graduated from High School at Lone Wolfe in 1938. As a young lady she worked as a baby sitter and took care of the elderly. She married Troy Raymond Harris on December 23, 1939 at Lone Wolfe and they made their home in the Lawton and Altus area until settling at Walters in 1954. Ruby cleaned houses and eventually went to work at Piatt's Nursing Home. She moved with them to the new Parkview Manor location, working with the company for a total of 35 years as a Registered Dietitian. She was a member of the First Christian Church and enjoyed sewing, cooking and her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Troy in 1998; a daughter, Jacquetta Smith in 1993; a grandson, Mark Smith; 5 brothers, Taylor, Earl, Odis, Lonnie and Alvis; 4 sisters, Ora, Bonnie, Cleo and Noreen. She is survived by a son, Troy Ray Harris of Lawton; a daughter, Becky Pembelton of Bryan, TX; a son-in-law, Bill Smith of Missouri; 6 grandchildren and spouses, Charlett Ann and Don Randell, Jo Dean Hartline, Monty Harris and Kathy Nichols, Chris and Dannah Pembelton, Mindy and Ryan Schippert, Susan and Rick Billings; 10 great grandchildren, Christian, R.J., Tori and Jerome, Angeline, Catlin, Julie, Madeline, Jordynn, Aiden and Kendall; 3 great-great grandchildren, Xavier, Corbin and Dewane; Special friends, Debbie Bellamy and Sissy Hanson of Walters, Nancy of Michigan; nieces, Peggy Simons and Debbie Perry and husband Keith; several other nieces and nephews; many friends and neighbors.
