Mildred Bernice Shipman was born to Roy Luther and Rosa Mae (Miller) McCaig at Pumpkin Center, OK on September 28, 1924 and departed this life in Duncan, OK on September 25, 2012 at the age of 87 years, 11 months and 28 days. Mildred grew up in the Comanche and Stephens County areas of Southwest Oklahoma. She married Omer Tearl Shipman on December 15, 1940 at Bethel and they soon made their home in the Empire Community where they raised their children. She and Tearl moved to Duncan in 1966 and Mildred went to work at Gibson's where she was employed for 19 years. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing, hummingbirds, working in the flowerbeds, making flower arrangements and keeping up with her brothers and sisters. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tearl on March 7, 2012; 5 brothers, Herman, Luke, Arthur, Clinton and Buford McCaig; an infant sister, Rena McCaig; and a grandson, Darren Dewayne Dungan. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Jim Dungan of Duncan; a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Carol Shipman of Walters; a brother, Henry McCaig of Duncan; 2 sisters, Elizabeth Adams of Wichita, KS and Ada Mae Duesman of Duncan; 2 grandchildren and spouses, Beverly and Randy McAlister of Velma, Billy Don and Lana Shipman of Lawton; 4 great grandchildren, Joe Lynn Hopkins of Duncan, Lacey and Zeph Elmore of Sterling, Derek Hopkins of Oklahoma City and Brittni Hopkins of Velma; a great-great grandson, Hunter Elmore; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
