RJ Kidd was born to Earl Tim and Minnie Mae (Youngblood) Kidd on July 1, 1917 near Altus, OK and departed this life in Temple, OK on May 11, 2012 at the age of 94 years, 10 months and 10 days. RJ grew up in the Ft. Worth area for 10 years. The family then moved to Tulia, TX and back to Altus before settling southwest of Walters when he was 12 years old. He entered the U.S. Army serving his country honorably in WWII from 1942 to 1945, serving 31 months overseas, from England to North Africa and into Italy. He married Margaret Ellen Watson on December 1, 1945 at Walters. RJ worked as a mechanic for Ford, had his own shop for a few years and then worked as a mechanic at Cotton Electric for 17 years, retiring as shop supervisor. He was preceded in death by Ellen in 1982 and later married Donna Dee (Patton) Dakis on January 1, 1983 at Walters. She preceded him in 2000 and he was also preceded by a brother, Gilbert Kidd and a step-daughter, Carol Scrivner. He enjoyed traveling in the RV from the East Coast to the West Coast, and from Canada to Mexico. He also enjoyed fishing at Lake Texoma and the Waurika Lake; gardening, sharing vegetables with others; and was particular about his vehicles and lawn. RJ was a fan of Yankees baseball and Mavericks basketball. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Walters. Survivors include 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Donald Logan of Canton, OK, Sharon and Gary Thurman of Walters, Mary and Stan Brown of Newalla, OK; 2 brothers and a sister-in-law, PO Kidd, and Bill and Marilyn Kidd all of Duncan, OK; 3 stepsons and their wives, Don and Mary Dakis of West Plains, MO, Rob and Christine Dakis of Westminster, MD, Royce and Lori Dakis of West Palm Beach, FL; 4 grandchildren, Dustin Thurman and wife Bridget, Nic Thurman all of Walters, Kally Brown of Newalla and Kerry Brown of Norman; 6 great grandchildren, Katie, Kenzie and Nathan Thurman, Conner, Madison and Ethan Pollock; other relatives and friends.
