Horace John Poolaw was born to Mose Edward and Jennie (Titchywy) Poolaw on August 21, 1944 in Lawton, Oklahoma and passed from this life on January 10, 2012 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 67 years 4 months and 20 days. John or "Slim" as he was known to his family and friends grew up at Walters, OK. He later lived in Chicago, IL, with his brother, Moses (Big Sonny), before returning to Oklahoma. He graduated from Walters High School in 1962 and later attended Bacone College in Muskogee, Oklahoma and Ft. Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. Slim proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He was employed by the Coca-Cola Corporation for a number of years before embarking on many other occupations including restaurant management, construction, and hairstyling. Slim was known for his infectious laugh and beautiful smile. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Moses Edward Poolaw Jr. (Big Sonny). He is survived by 2 sisters, Goldie Phillips of Tulsa, OK and Vivian Poolaw of Walters, OK; wife Peggy Poolaw of Del City, OK; and daughter Carol Poolaw of Ponca City, OK; many other relatives and friends.
