Billy Jack Lee

Jack went to his Heavenly home on Saturday, January 7, 2012, after an extended illness. Private burial, was under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home, was at Walters Cemetery with Brother Roger Noland assisting. Billy Jack Lee was born June 12, 1934, east of Walters in the Valley View community, to Henry Clyde and Lena Bell (Fletcher) Lee. The family moved to Walters where he attended school and graduated in 1953. He married Peggy Joyce Clemmer on October 19, 1956, in Walters. They were blessed with two children, Jacquita (Keta) Joyce and Rocky Jack. In 1954, Jack joined the Oklahoma National Guard, 45th Division. He attained the rank of Sergeant First Class and was a member of the competition rifle team. Beginning in 1957, he served two years active duty at Ft. Gordon, GA, where he completed the Non-Commissioned Officers Academy and became an instructor in cable-splicing at the U.S. Army Southeastern Signal School. He began his employment with Cotton Electric Cooperative soon after he graduated from high school and continued there until his retirement in 1986. During that time, he worked in several phases of the operation and enjoyed his years with the "Coop Family". Jack was an avid fisherman. He would fish anywhere, but his favorite place was Lake Texoma, where the family spent a great deal of time and made many wonderful memories. He also enjoyed going to garage sales and flea markets, and after his retirement, making craft items to sell. He and Peggy enjoyed traveling to craft shows in Oklahoma and surrounding states for more than twenty years. He had been a member of the Walters First Baptist Church since childhood and was a Sunday school teacher in years past. He was also a long-time member of the Lawton Craft, Art and Hobby Association. Survivors include his wife of 55 years; a daughter and son-in-law, Keta and Donald Podzemny, of Wichita Falls, Texas; a son and daughter-in-law, Rocky and Lamerle Lee, also of Wichita Falls; a grandson, Lance Marshall, his wife Lindsey and son Blake; and a granddaughter, LeAndra Podzemny. He is also survived by two sisters, Florence Jones of Temple and Peggy (Klein) Fletcher and husband, Richard, of Walters; two nieces, Wilma Gilliam, and Ginger Thomas and husband John; and two nephews, Clyde Jones and wife Sue, and Rich Klein and wife Cory. Other survivors include four step-grandchildren, two step great-grandsons, and several great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews, who were all very special to him, as well as several cousins with whom he had remained close since childhood.
